Algren, Nelson /ˈɔːlɡrən/

A

(1909–81), American novelist; born Nelson Abraham Algren. He drew on his childhood experiences in the slums of Chicago for his novels of social realism, for example The Man with the Golden Arm (1949) and Walk on the Wild Side (1956).
